Matas Danielius

I’m Matas Danielius. I’m a theatre and film actor.

I was born in Lithuania during the Soviet occupation. The desire for freedom was something I understood before I had words for it. It shaped everything that followed, including finding my way to acting, something that has been a passion, a discipline, and a form of therapy ever since.

During my studies at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, I first encountered the artists who changed how I understand performance: Antonin Artaud, Jerzy Grotowski, Tatsumi Hijikata, Yoshi Oida, and Michael Chekhov. Their work was physical, visceral, and deeply serious about what performance can do to an audience, and to the performer. It demanded the whole person, not just a convincing face, and that stayed with me.

Sport was a big part of my earlier life. I competed in tennis at international junior level in Lithuania, and trained over the years in Aikido, boxing, and Muay Thai. I didn't know at the time how much that would feed into acting, but the body remembers things the mind forgets. That physical awareness has become one of the more useful things I bring to a role.

Over the past decade I've worked continuously across stage and screen. Highlights include performing alongside Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Keithen Carter, appearing in a feature film with William Baldwin, and taking a character role on Netflix's Analog Squad. I also produced Useful Idiots, an independent feature film. I've been living in Bangkok for nearly twelve years, and that long immersion in a culture far from Lithuania has shaped my instincts in ways I'm still discovering.

I've never been interested in playing it safe. I've lived far from home for nearly sixteen years, built companies, trained my body and mind, and kept coming back to acting through all of it. I have a full life: family, curiosity, disciplines far removed from any camera or stage. Acting is a lifelong practice for me, not a destination. It sharpens me, grounds me, and runs through everything else I do: the sport, the meditation, the entrepreneurship, the way I see people and situations.
